The Pitch: Lyon, France mathcore band Dead Kiwis are back in the saddle again with another noisey, chaotic, and technical EP. FFO: Arms, The Chariot, The Dillinger Escape Plan

What I Like: Such beautiful bedlam. Like their previous material, Systematic Home Run is a brilliantly raucous showcase of hardcore, mathcore, and grind. It's pure, balls-to-the-wall mayhem packed with allusions to the likes of Botch, The Dillinger Escape Plan, and early Norma Jean via vicously barked vocals, dissonant, technical guitar f#%kery, and highly frenetic drumming. And while we may only have 16 minutes of music to work with here, you'll be hard pressed to find such a shining example of quality over quantity. Not since the early days of Adult Swim have I been so thoroughly and consistently entertained in such a timeframe. Dead Kiwis truly are the Sealab and Aqua Teen Hunger Force of the hardcore scene. Their skillful harnessing of disorder, improvisational feel, and sense of humor make them an indispensable unit of this new generation of mathcore bands.

Critiques: "The Revenge Of The 666 Ro Nin" is the only track on this album that doesn't grab me by the throat and throttle me like I'm Bart Simpson. It's a fine tonal break from the otherwise ripping pace, but if I have a nitpick of the album it's that I would have preferred another proper song.

The Verdict: Systematic Home Run alreaedy stands to be among the finest short releases of the year. Unrelentingly technical and deliciously addictive, Dead Kiwis are quickly proving themselves to be top players in the new breed. Absolutely buy this album.
