The Pitch: Belgian technical death metal band Aborted follow up Retrogore with tight as a drum 3 song EP La Grand Mascarade via Century Media. FFO: The Black Dahlia MurderBenightedWithin Destruction

What I Like: What a month. New releases from Benighted, The Black Dahlia Murder, and Aborted all within mere weeks of one another? Frankly, it's daunting. Regardless, don't let the short nature of this EP present it as anything less than more top notch material from on of the best modern death metal bands in the biz. It may only be 3 songs, but they are easily some of the best of their career. After a seriously atmospheric intro, "Gloom and the Art of Tribulation" kicks right into high gear with echoing snare hits and squealing guitar hellscapes complimented by Sven’s always demented and dynamic brutal gutturals. The resulting composition is perhaps their most expansive and elaborate to date, and is certain to be a new fan favorite. And while this is clearly the crown jewel of the three, the other two tracks don’t slouch either with intense, engaging, and well-paced thrills that make La Grand Mascarade pretty much perfection from start to finish.

Critiques: Just keep 'em coming.

The Verdict: You couldn't ask for a better EP than this, so if you're a fan of Aborted's full length LP's, don't be a dummy: pick this one up to further compliment your collection.
