The Pitch: Progressive metalcore band Buy Jupiter from Lyon, France deliver another rock solid EP via Apathia Records. FFO: After The Burial, TesseractAugust Burns Red

What I Like: Back in 2017, we covered Buy Jupiter's previous release, Crossworlds. And while that was a stellar EP in its own right, I have every confidence in saying that Eclipse is thier finest outing date. The final chapter in an Isaac Assimov-inspired trilogy, it's another sci fi-infused progressive opus that doesn't skimp on the heavier parts. Buy Jupiter do an excellent job of melding two very disparate stylistic worlds: one of spacey, atmospheric prog and another filled with early 00's-inspired metalcore vocals and breakdowns (It Dies Today, anyone?). And while this duality previously led me to Hopesfall allusions, these guys are largely doing their own thing. The similarities are there (there's even a particularly Sattelite Years-y guitar hook on "Obscured"), but Buy Jupiter take a much darker, heavier route that also includes elements of Meshuggah. Even more impressive, they know how to play the long game. Clocking in at over 8 minutes, opening track "Arrival" is an utter songwriting delight that doesn't bore for a second.

Critiques: I still have the same single concern as I did on the last on: the vocals could do with a little more variation. The current approach works perfectly fine with plenty of passion, but I can't help but feel like there's opportunity to further extend the dynamics in this direction.

The Verdict: A stellar EP, and another fine dose of metalcore to fuel the genre's flame in 2019. Its a style that meant so much to me in my formative years, and when done right brings nothing but good vibes and great memories. Buy Jupiter are a very talented band that seem to be going places...but only with your support. Buy it this Friday.
