The Pitch: "Dark, cold and dirty Grind ‘n’ Roll" / crusty hardcore from Finland's Unborn Generation. Vøid is the trio's 6th album and is coming at you via Inverse Records. FFO: Converge, Nuisible, Marydod
What I Like: Vøid is just a good, old-fashioned hardcore time. Vicious vocals, raging D-beats, and violent distortion. Pure and simple. Their sound is crusty and raw, leading to a highly unfiltered headbanging experience. And while the music isn't particularly original, there are some really great moments to be found. I particularly enjoy the part where the beat is allowed to breathe on "King" and the very Converge-esque "Daggers." In short, simple but effective.
Critiques: There's virtually nothing here to differentiate Unborn Generation from the endless march of other hardcore bands. Again, that's not to say that they aren't good; just that they don't stand out.
The Verdict: If you're just looking to add some more caustic hardcore to your collection, you can't go wrong with Vøid. It's everything you need in the genre: fast, hard, and consistent. Unborn Generation play to their strengths. I'd just like to hear a little more exploration along the way.
