The Pitch: Oklahoma City based technical, progressive death metal trio Dischordia will leave even diehard fans scratching their heads over the course of this album.  FFO Coma Cluster Void.

What I Like: Eclectic and weird are the key words here.  Some riffs are straight prog, others delve into Meshuggah stylings.  "The Rivers" throws you for a loop straight off the bat as it transitions abruptly from smooth jazz to brutal death.  There is plenty of variety and intensity to go around.  Fantastic solos amidst some strange, atonal bass guitar work; and of course the drumming is insane.  I also love that random little interlude towards the end of "The Traveler."  You'll know it when you hear it.

What I Don't Like: Sometimes the chaos pushes the boundaries a little too far to the point that I lose interest.  It's like my brain gets so confused that it simply shuts down.

The Verdict: Thanatopsis is a highly unpredictable affair performed by an adept group of musical nutjobs.  Abandon all hope ye who enter.
