The Pitch: Sludge/post-metal Californians Lament Cityscape join forces with New York "blackened synth death" project Theologian to create a despairing, largely instrumental descent into madness. Not a split, this is a full collaboration.
What I Like: Pretty engaging, even during the more ambient portions. There are a lot of styles that creep up to create heavy atmosphere. Much of this album reminds me of a much trippier take on The Downward Spiral. Love the weird, folky vocals on "Old Flyeater."
What I Don't Like: A little inconsistent. I found myself losing interest at certain parts. It feels more like good background music than something I would listen to regularly. It would make an excellent soundtrack. If you like that style, you will love it.
Takeaway: Highly atmospheric outing that shows both bands firing on all cylinders to create something greater than the sum of its parts. Not necessarily a ton of replay value, but I still enjoyed it. "Inevitablity" is the best track, "We Are All Barbaric Scum" a close second.
