The Pitch: Death/grind from Willowtip's Vimana out of Seattle, featuring current and former members of Cephalic Carnage  and Vale Of Pnath. "...contemplating your existence in the universe while crushing a beer can against your forehead listening to Slayer."

What I Like: The guitars and drums on this album are going to mess you up. Part punishing tech death, part ground-shaking grindcore; The Collapse is nothing short of destructive. Similarly, the vocals get downright brutal. I highly appreciate the variance in approach to compliment the ever-shifting instruments. Deep lows, shrieking highs, and everything in between carry an already intense experience well over the finish line. The album hits fast and vicious along the same lines as Cryptopsy, but with a few welcome surprises as with the proggier "Destroy Industry."

Critiques: My only real gripe with this EP is with the vocals on the slower parts. When the music settles into a groove, the growls end up in a register that sounds amateurish in comparison to everything else. Cut these in favor of the more extreme deliveries and we're good.

The Verdict: Vimana have a few rough edges to iron out, but as a short EP I pray that this is but a taste of what is to come. Willowtip continues their tradition of picking up interesting young bands in their prime, and I can't wait to see where they go from here.
