The Pitch: Groovy, instrumental math metal from Montréal's Bisbâyé. FFO: MoRkObOt, Animals As Leaders, Ketha
What I Like: Bisbâyé was sent my direction by the wonderful people at Mathcore Index, and I thank them for that. Equal parts funky groove and technical time signatures, this band treads very similar ground as groups like MoRkObOt with the added whimsy of Primus. The drums and guitars do more than enough to make up for the lacking vocals; so much so that I find myself forgetting that I'm listening to an instrumental band. And while all of the performances on this album are both fun and impressive, the 10+ minute "As Above So Below" finds the band taking the phrase "organized chaos" to a new level.
Critiques: I could stand to hear the group diversify their sound a bit more. Maybe some style changes to break up the rest of the funk.
The Verdict: Bisbâyé is a talented group who need no vocals to get their point across. Synkronyk is a must for the musicianship junkies in our audience. I'll be sure to check up on these guys in the future.
