The Pitch: Michigan metalcore band For the Fallen Dreams releases their new album Six through Rise Records. FFO: Make Them Suffer, Architects, Underoath

What I Like: When I came across Six, I was just looking for a fun, poppy metalcore album to break the monotony. That's exactly what you're going to get. For The Fallen Dreams write catchy songs with infectious choruses and earworm riffs. Songs like "Stone" and "Unstoppable" show a lot of promise for this group with their instantly accessible atmosphere and solid implementation of synth and electronic touches. The sing-along moments may be contrived, but they don't come off as overly sappy; and there's an overall good ratio of heavy to clean moments.

Critiques: While there aren't any real dealbreaker songs on Six, there's a lot of vanilla material.  After the first few, my interest starts to taper off with a series of "passable" tracks that are fine, but just not all that engaging. And the lyrics? Soooo many cliches and overused platitudes. These definitely add to the accessible nature of the album, but they don't do it any favors in terms of really having something to say.

The Verdict: For The Fallen Dreams are a metalcore band with plenty of promise. They commit to strong, consistent performances and prove their worth with some of this album's highlights. Six may be a little lukewarm, but with increased focus on songwriting and continued experimentation with the electronic elements, I could see these guys moving into the realm of bands like Make Them Suffer.
