The Pitch: "Blending the chainsaw fury of swedish death metal with UK Hardcore's sledgehammer groove, Casket Feeder are a punishing trifecta of brutality, rage, and power" through Hibernacula Records. FFO: Power Trip, Homewrecker, Wolf King
What I Like: There's been some really nice crossover coming through the pipe lately with stuff like Power Trip bringing a more youthful, modern spin to the intersecting worlds of thrash, death metal, and hardcore. Casket Feeder is among the latest of these groups I have come across, and they certainly hold their own in the melee. Speaking of which, this album is basically 19 minutes straight of pure crowdkilling fuel. Diabolical D-beats, raging riffs, and bludgeoning breakdowns; Scalps is about as subtle as the gritty cover art might imply. Tracks like "Ill Will," clocking in at less than a minute are a testament to the band's penchant for highly focused destruction. No BS, just moshpit metal. Furthermore, Matt's alternations between throat-wrenching hardcore screams and brutal death growls really amplifies the overall heaviness.
Critiques: "Carve Their Names Upon The Hanging Tree" slows things down too long in the middle. I appreciate that this track showcases the band's flexibility when it comes to style and pacing, but I prefer my Casket Feeder fast and ferious.
The Verdict: Throw back a few, pull on your battle vest, and get to your nearest venue or basement show: Casket Feeder are coming. Having toured with the likes of Venom Prison, Leeched, and Ingested; they are no strangers to a confrontational live experience.
