The Pitch: German melodic death/folk metal band Equilibrium with another epic album via Nuclear Blast. FFO: Amon Amarth, Turisas, Power Wolf

What I Like: Aaaayyyy, finally some folky melodic death metal in a year that has been few and far between. That said, leave it to Equilibrium to go from one of their goofiest (and most fun) albums to date to arguably their most serious. Trading Norse mythology for urban legends and apocalyptic scenarios, Renegades showcases a band growing and maturing with the mindset of its members. And while this album features a more somber attitude on songs like "Renegades - A Lost Generation" and "Tornado," others like the upbeat, synth-heavy "Himmel Und Feuer" prove that this band is still born to be epic. In fact, I dare say that Renegades features some of the band's catchiest anthems to date. "Moonlight" may as well be a Dragonforce song with some folky overtones. I could even see "Hype Train" being featured on a DDR machine near you. And thanks to the massive production, this album brings their stage persona right into your earbuds.

Critiques: The rapping on "Path Of Destiny" is a bit much on an otherwise perfect album.

The Verdict: Regardless of theme, I guarantee that the crowds are going to eat these tunes up during live performances. Once again, Equilibrium get my heart racing and adrenaline pumping with a highly consistent, action-packed album. Another purchase from me for sure.
