Review of Portal and their new 2021 album Avow via Profound Records. Portal is an Australian avant-garde death metal that have largely helped to pioneer a much more atmospheric and foreboding niche in the genre. Fusing elements of death doom, black metal, and a very chaotic breed of technical death metal, albums like Outre and Vexovoid have helped to inspire a new wave of haunting spirals into the abyss. Avow is the band's sixth album following 2018's Ion, and another that came with strong anticipation as a fan of many years. Key tracks: Eye, Offune, Drain
