The Pitch: Arkhan Infaustus is a black, death, and doom band from France off of the ever-rising influence of LADLO Productions.  After a decade of silence and 20 years of existence, the band returns with 4 soul-reaving new tracks.  FFO: Time Lurker, Palace of Worms, Qrixkuor

What I Like: Arkhan Infaustus certainly have at least one thing mastered: utterly commanding presence.  This recording sounds absolutely immense in scale.  The endless waves of double bass and pounding toms echo through eternity as the raging tremolos seem to attack from all directions.  Portals to places beyond time and space open to unleash Lovecraftian horrors as the compositions allow varying styles and textures to bleed into one another.  The focus is on black metal aesthetic, but the vocals are pure death.  Through a series of spine-tingling snarls, brutal growls, and sickening wretches, the appropriately named DevianT directs all proceedings like some hunched monster from unfathomable places.

Critiques: The doomier moments don't always do it for me.  I think that bigger fans of that genre than I will dig the funeral influences that crop up throughout the album, but I just tend to prefer my black and death metal a little more direct.  The final track in particular strikes me as a little dull albeit still evil AF.

The Verdict: Passing The Nekromanteion is not a perfect album, but it is one that caught my attention and refused to release me from it's clawed grip.  If you like fusing black, death, and doom in pretty equal measure then Arkhon Infaustus is a band worth checking out.
