The Pitch: 20 Buck Spin reissues the back-catalog for Finnish cosmic black metal outfit Oranssi Pazuzu in the US for the first time.  FFO Cult of Fire, Cultes Des Ghoules, Sigh

What I Like: These guys are delightfully weird.  It's like a black metal acid trip in space.  Carl Sagan rolls a fat one to this.  The instrumentation really runs the gamut between doomy grooves, spacey jazz, dissonant noise, and atmospheric ambience.  Each of these releases has something a little different to offer and should appeal to fans of the avant-garde and experimental.  But weirdness aside, Oranssi Pazuzu never forget their black metal roots in the process.  The vocals are rotten to the core and as grim as they come.

What I Don't Like: I know there are plenty of superfans out there that love a good experiential album that tends to wander, but I do get bored at times.  Personally, I prefer the concentration of Farmakologinen to the hour plus meandering of Kosmonument.  You may feel differently.  Such is the joy of music.

The Verdict: A very interesting set of releases with something to offer for fans of BM, prog, avant-garde, and even drone.  Strap on that space helmet and just let go.  Get them HERE and HERE.
