The Pitch: UK djenty deathcore/metalcore band Monolith deliver a clothesline directly to the throat with their new album No Saints No Solace. FFO: Cabal, Whitechapel, Krosis

What I Like: Even with the glut of djent projects out there, I just can't get enough of those classic Meshuggah riffs combined with an imposing vocal performance. Thus is the case, once more, for Monolith. With groovy, serpentine hooks straight out of Nothing and dominating deathcore snarls, No Saints No Solace is quite a treat for fans of the genre. The entire album is a highly consistent work of absolute fury. And aside from the obvious, batterying displays of the frontman and lead axeman, there are also more subtle elements of eerie background guitars and impressive bass work to really flesh out the bleak, despairing atmosphere.

Critiques: If Monolith want to step out of B-range territory, they're gonna need to step up the innovation and flesh out their own unique personality. I adore every track, but they could have come from any number of other similar bands.

The Verdict: Must listen for fans of djent and deathcore. Monolith's No Saints No Solace will tackle you to the floor and rob you blind just for the thrill of it.
