The Pitch: Sailor Records presents the sophomore album from Denver heavy, alternative rockers, Abram.  FFO Baroness, Mike Patton

What I Like: "Worlds Away" is a really nice kickstart to the album.  The music brings back everything I loved about the music you would hear on rock stations in the 90's and early 2000's.  Groups from Helmet to Rollins Band come to mind, with plenty hardcore edge in the vocals.  Despite lacking the range and weirdness, I actually hear a similar inflection as Mike Patton during more straightforward performances with Faith No More or Tomahawk.  I know people who would scoff at the reference, but I assure you it’s there.  As for the other instrumentation, descriptions depend highly on which song you’re listening to.  The first two tracks have a groovy, grungy, sludgy vibe akin to Baroness and perhaps even Mastodon.  I love the driving drums and catchy hooks on “In The End” perhaps most of all.  But later in the album takes a turn towards post-rock and more accessible tunes with mixed results.

What I Don't Like: Honestly, I was pretty bummed with the second half of this album.  I'm no hater of melodic music, but I feel like my adrenaline got all pumped up early on only to leave me in frustration.  "Mourning" is a particularly rough offender that starts to feel a bit cheesy.

The Verdict: I can tell that Abrams have some real talent and passion to go around.  While Morning didn't quite hold up over its entire length, I am very interested in following this group further.  Good alternative rock is few and far between these days.
