The Pitch: "Pop-Sludge duo from an origin unknown..." UK experimental mathcore.
What I Like: Biz-onkers. I was experiencing a bit of a drought with the holidays approaching in terms of releases that really turned my head. As such, Zilf nearly snapped my neck when I pressed play. True to the trippy artwork, this album is a work of LSD-fueled, technical mind-f@#kery. A little Mr. Bungle with Miss Machine-era Dillinger Escape Plan. The clean singing definitely shares some quirky similiarities with Mr. Puciato, but the heavier parts have more of a Static-X or Devin Townsend influence than that of hardcore. As long as I'm just dropping names at this point: Blood Brothers, Barishi, Umbah, Jerseyband, Torrential Downpour, and Car Bomb.
What I Don't Like: A few of the clean vocals drift a bit off key and could benefit from some better production. Other than that, this is pretty bomb.
The Verdict: Name your price for a fantastic debut EP from a promising new act in one of my favorite genres. Watch for their first FULL LENGTH later in 2017.
