The Pitch: Fort Lauderdale matchore band Into The Moat's 2013 EP, Means By Which The End Is Justified, re-recorded and remastered for free download. FFO: The Number 12 Looks Like You, early The Dillinger Escape Plan, Symphony In Peril

What I Like: Noisy, abrasive, chaotic: all the stuff that makes for a good mathcore album. I don't have too many original notes on this album, but it's solid enough that I wanted to spare at least a few words to get you interested in checking it out. Means By Which... has flown under my radar for over 5 years, but I'm grateful to have this second chance to hear the band's early work. The guitars and vocals are deliciously manic, but I think that the real star of this show is the drumming. Both the performances and production on the kit are quite strong. In addition to sounding impressively virile even through my crappy headphones, the constant pattern shifts are beyond my comprehension.

Critiques: This was a bit overhyped for me. I was hearing people compare it to Calculating Infinity and Jane Doe, and this really comes nowhere close. It's great mathcore worthy of putting into your rotation, but hardly the next big thing or an instant classic. All of this has been done many times before.

The Verdict: Into The Moat are a name that deserves more attention, and hopefully one that will deliver some new material. From what I could find, the band has not released anything in some time, so I'm curious to hear where these decade+ hardened musicans could cook up next. Get the album at the price of your choosing below.
