Review of the new 2021 Korpiklanni album Jylhä via Nuclear Blast Records. Korpiklaani is a Finnish folk metal band who certainly lean heavily into the folk side of the genre, largely focusing on sung vocals, accordian, and violin presented front and center. For over 17 years the group have used their unique music to share tales of joy, heartbreak and history, often infused with both the energy of rock ‘n roll and heavy metal. This is their 10th album, following 2018's Kulkija and 2015's Noita. Jylha can be translated roughly to Majestic, or wild, and rugged in a strong beautiful way.
