The Pitch: Raw, underproduced old school death metal from Vancouver's Grave Infestation via Invictus Productions. FFO: Necrovore, Repulsion, and Sadistic Intent
What I Like: Just taking another break from all things shiny and polished to slum it in the real trenches. Grave Infestation's reissued demo is everything you could look for in a back-to-basics death metal album: gritty DIY production, ugly growls, jangly basslines and riffs straight out of the late 80's and early 90's. Infesticide sounds like it was recorded live in my garage... and that's a compliment. I also give the band credit for varying up the pacing between crusty ragers and groovey doom passages to keep thing interesting. There's even a few eerie ambient moments.
Critiques: Nothing new here, but if you're looking for full throttle OSDM, you got it in spades.
The Verdict: Bitter and blackened, Infesticide is a pure slice of death metal; nothing more, nothing less. Get it for the first time on cassette this friday or digitally on Bandcamp right now.
