The Pitch: Schizoid mathgrind from Russia's Wvsteland built around concepts of videogames, movies, and books. FFO: Psyopus, Horse The Band, Full of Hell

What I Like: Pure chaos punctuated with plenty of audio samples and electronic manipulation. There are few things that put a smile on my face quite like a Duke Nukem-laced math composition. IDDQD draws heavily from the early days of Psyopus, bringing ever-nearer the ressurgence of the technical hardcore movement. As I've said many times before, these young bands are hungry; and few bring with them the same dark overtones of Eastern Europe. Wvsteland have a sound that knows its country's roots in black metal and other extreme genres. The vocals are truly ferocious, and the abuse of these guitars may warrant a call to the authorities.

Critiques: There are some moments where the samples become a bit overbearing, namely "Nuttertools." It is possible to have too much of a good thing.

The Verdict: If you have been enjoying the likes of modern groups like Full of Hell, or yearn for the days when mathgrind groups roamed the realms of MySpace, do yourself a favor and check out Wvsteland. They are more than worth your time.
