The Pitch: California death and metallic hardcore act Xibalba, named for the Mayan underworld, return with 3 new tracks to bust your teeth on.

What I Like: This is just that break stuff music.  Music that gives your lips a downward curl and your eyes a flame within.  Rather than relying on speed, much of the brutality on these tracks comes slowly...like a methodical mafioso interrogation.  The guitars rely much on de-tuned, intense chugging while the mixed hardcore/death vocals seem to channel a bit of Phil Anselmo's work with Superjoint. I also can't get enough of that Dan Seagrave art.

What I Don't Like: Nothing too special going on here.  I admire the heaviness, but have yet to see what these guys can do that others don't already.

The Verdict: EP for those "cruisin' for a bruisin'."  Buy it on 2/24 through Closed Casket Activities. Stream it early HERE.
