The Pitch: Rugged and raw blackened death metal from Denmark's LIGÆDER. Current and former members from No Fealty, Hexis, Gust, City Keys, LLNN, Stream City, Dirtdrinker, Église and afmagt. "Out of the dark and mouldy sewers of Copenhagen LIGÆDER ascends ready to feast on all that is dead and rotting." FFO: Crypt Rot, Decomposed, Gutter Instinct
What I Like: This album simply drips and oozes from the walls around you. FORDØJET LEVENDE is so caked in filth that you'll need one of Dr. Jocoby's golden shovel to "shovel out of the s#!t" Listening to these ugly, jangly guitar lines, grimy distortion, and crusty D-beats is the sonic equivalent of not showering for 2 weeks. If you come out of this experience without people reacting aversively to your body odor, then you didn't do it right. That's it. Just expect some really killer, oppressive death metal that pulls influences from Portal as much as Death. Props for just the right amount of reverb on these dominating vocals as well.
Critiques: Fairly typical stuff, but this is strong for a debut effort.
The Verdict: LIGÆDER didn't quite blow me away with FORDØJET LEVENDE, but I enjoy it enough to keep coming back for more pain and filth. And given the amazing underground pedigree of the members involved, I am very excited to hear more from them in the future. Église, Hexis, and LLNN!? Sign me up for those 3 alone.
