The Pitch: The debut album of Portuguese thrashers Infraktor via Rastilho Metal Records. The album "offers a heavy, yet catchy thrash/death metal sound brimming with pummelling rhythms, fast and aggressive riffs and ferocious vocals."
What I Like: Exhaust is an album bursting with energy and tight performances. The riffs are filled with groove and highly enjoyable, especially on the road. Expect plenty of headbanging hooks and ripping solos. The vocals lean heavily on more of a death metal delivery, which is preferable for someone like me who finds things like Overkill kind of grating over time. But arguably the real star of this album is Francisco Martins and his work on the kit. There are many moments on Exhaust that threw me into a frenzy of air drumming such as the opening of "Confront" or throughout "Speech of Deceit."
Critiques: This is another album that I greatly enjoy while it is playing, but doesn't really stick with me afterwards. I hate using the word "generic" in this case, since that word often goes hand in hand with a sense of blandness. There is nothing bland about this album, it just lacks some of those memorable "Now you've got something to die for!" moments.
The Verdict: Infraktor are a talented band that play well together and definitely need to keep making records. With Exhaust, they have put together a solid album that showcases each members' strengths and their plenty of potential for the future. While I don't see this as an album I'll be reflecting on much towards the end of the year, it is still worth your time and attention.
