The Pitch: Gothenburg, Sweden metalcore act Grayscale Season follow up their promising Head To Mist EP with a very impressive full length. FFO: Car Bomb, Buy Jupiter, Letters From The Colony

What I Like: Well hello there, Grayscale Season. I went into Everything Hurts with modest expectations having heard the previous EP, but I was not prepared for it to be this good. The very first track already had me wide-eyed and talking to myself out loud..."Goddam, guys. You got me." Much head nodding and eyebrow raising. Grayscale Season put a nice little twist on the usual metalcore/djent formula, developing that all-important sense of individuality in this seamingly endless sea of bands. Eclectic tracks like "Kobayashi Maru" and "Joy" are at once tough guy fight music and emotionally cathartic bliss. As such, if I were to compare Grayscale Season to any one group, it would most definitely be Car Bomb... mixed with some tough guy s#!t. And hell, if you're a relatively new band in the game, you can't go wrong with a top tier comparison like that. These guys possess a similarly varied approach, mixing mathy low end crunch and breakdowns with seriously catchy melodies.

Critiques: 55 minutes may be a bit ostentatious for an early release. I think that this already strong album could have been even stronger were it just a little more concise. That said, I'm never truly bored thanks to the aforementioned stylistic variation.

The Verdict: Holy mackerel, guys...coming from out of nowhere to likely nab a spot for one of my favorite albums of the year. Everything Hurts is positively stunning, and the honor was all mine when it came to premiering one of the tracks. My only regret is that I could only pick one. It's like picking a favorite child. Follow Grayscale Season. Buy the album. Spread the word.

Flight's Fav's: Kobayashi Maru, Joy, Glitch, all of them
