The Pitch: Tight, brilliant grind/mathcore EP from Maryland project Euclid C Finder. FFO: Daughters, Noisays, The Number 12 Looks Like You
What I Like: Nothing excites me more than an impressive new release from this dedicated niche of the musical world. Enter Euclid C Finder, another one-man project from the New England region. The impressive, semi-self-titled EP is all the loving effort of one Michael Mehl, a former member of Kiss The Sky Goodbye, Neck First, and Egarra. I'm always impressed by multi-instrumentalists, but far more so when they've really got a knack for the songwriting process. Not only is this one of the tightest 12 minutes of mathcore you'll come across; it's pretty damned diverse in spite of the runtime. It is a veritable clown car of styles and influences. "Aesthetic Distance," for instance, kicks off with the vicious whammy bar-heavy aesthetic of Frontierer and Psyopus before transitioning to a more The Number 12 flavored approach. Similarly "If You Hope The Answer's Nope" initially seems like your average grindcore, but switches gears to what I can only describe as an indie, surfer vibe towards the middle. And not content to stop there, the song is capped off with a very Calculating Infinity outro. This is but a sample of what the album has to offer, and it took me longer to write this than to listen.
Critiques: There's really nothing negative to say about this release. It's definitely short, but makes up for that with its infinite re-listenability. Slap that repeat button, ya'll.
The Verdict: EUCLID C FINDER! is as addictive as it is impressive. The first time I picked it up I listened to it 3 or 4 times in a row. I've lost count in the short time since then. This is talent that simply cannot be ignored, and given that you can Name Your Price for download, there is absolutley no reason not to buy it. It's worth your support
