The Pitch: "Wound Collector plays death metal with a historic twist and a demented saxophone. Each of the members have years of experience in playing and performing a variety of different styles of music." FFO: Jerseyband, Brain Tentacles, Acrania
What I Like: The saxophone work on this album is incredible. If you dug the brassy Brain Tentacles debut, Eternal Bloodcult definitely warrants checking out. Renowned saxophonist and composer Peter Verdonck is responsible for some seriously heavy and technical moments on this album. I've heard a handful of bands toy with this sound, and while I don't think any of them have perfected it just yet, Eternal Bloodcult are definitely onto something. The music is playful and impressive.
Critiques: Unfortunately, the vocals on this album are pretty bad. Between the flat production and one-note delivery of these death growls, they manage to destract and even detract from the larger songwriting. If this band wants to step things up, this is where they need to focus their attention.
The Verdict: With stronger, more dynamic vocal performances, Wound Collector could take the world by storm. Eternal Bloodcult may have some glaring flaws, but the overall composition and especially incredible saxophone work point to great things in the future if they can smooth out the rough edges.
