The Pitch: 7th album from German one-man pagan/folk metal project; inspired by the 17th century German folk song "Es ist ein Schnitter," lansquenets, wars of the past, tribalism, and the spirit of masculinity.
What I Like: Great opener. "Alles in einem Schnitt" is a rockin' folk tune that sets the tone for the album with a mixture of energy and atmospere. The clean vocals feel timeless, and the guitar hooks perhaps even more so. The ups and downs in terms of pacing keep the album interesting, but I mostly adore the uptempo tracks. Regardless of the speed, there is plenty of emotion conveyed. "Lanz und Spieß" is also an interesting little detour.
What I Don't Like: Some of the slower tracks get a little dull. Fortunately, none of the songs are overlong, so it doesn't hurt the flow too much.
The Verdict: Turm am Hang, though not without its pitfalls, is overall a very immersive and enjoyable experience that shows its years of experience.
