The Pitch: Technical Death Metal quintet Ergodic self release their debut self-titled EP. FFO: Inferi, Equipoise, The Black Dahlia Murder
What I Like: What a delightful beginning for another promising band. In just 3 songs, Ergotic manage to capture the essence of what got me into The Black Dahlia Murder so many years ago. They possess the same knack for combing technical prowess with melodeath riffs to craft songs that are equal parts impressive and catchy. Furthermore, the alternations in the vocals from shrill highs to gurgly lows is every bit as engaging as Trevor's. Stellar hooks, standout bass, techy drumming, and a dynamic delivery all make for an absolutely enthralling 15 minutes.
Critiques: Ergodic's next task is to take this foundation and build off of it in such a way that they aren't just "that band that sounds just like TBDM."
The Verdict: Excellent EP. I'm very much looking forward to a full length in the future.
