The Pitch: UK instrumental progressive/djent act Zilf makes a triumphant return with a rock solid new release. Bonus: Name your own Price.  FFO: Mendel, Periphery, Modern Day Babalon

What I Like: Count Djent Jams among the best EP's of the year if you're a fan of the genre. With this release, Zilf continue to hone their skills with an incredibly focused and consistent 15 minutes of music.  Not a drop of delectable djent juice is wasted.  These riffs sound like they could be the guitar tracks from an upcoming Periphery record with their infectious grooves and highly technical presentation. And while Zilf stands perfectly strong as an instrumental act, I would love to hear some guest vocals from the likes of Spencer Sotello or Pieter Verpaalen. For the rest of you who frequently comment "I'd love Periphery if it weren't for the crappy singing," well here is the best chance you're going to get.  On a final note, I adore the slick implementation of electronics on this EP, particularly the pseudo-rave interlude on the all-around phenominal closing track. Seriously, "Uranus Has Rings Too!!" may be one of the tightest instrumental prog songs I have ever heard; though the 8-bit intro and Half Life allusions of "We Don't Go to Ravenholm" aren't half bad either.

Critiques: Again, I think it would be neat to hear a (worthy) guest spot on vocals at least for a song or two. More generally, I'm excited to hear more of how Zilf continues to weave goofy, off-the-wall synth work into the intense riffage.

The Verdict: A punchy, succinct release from a small band on the rise. Add this project to your "groups to watch" list. Hit that "follow" button on bandcamp, like them on Facebook.  The album is streaming in full below and available at the price of your choosing.
