The Pitch: Unique Leader Records has welcomed another excellent death metal band into their fold: Jersey brutal tech death quintet Cognitive.   “We poured a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into this album,” the band states, “and the emotion really came through within the songs as well as our approaches to each song. It’s a concept album based around New Jersey’s folklore, but we still left it open for some interpretation.”

What I Like:  I am pretty choosey about anything that starts to border on deathcore, but in terms of riffs and sheer brutality, these guys are pretty good.  When all cylinders are firing, there is fun to be had.

What I Don't Like: Very inconsistent.  Some tracks are really great, others didn't really grab my interest much at all.

The Verdict: It seems fitting that a state claiming residence to thier own elusive, backwoods devil would be home to such intense music.  Featuring a guest appearance from Misery Index's Mark Kloeppel, Deformity is here to conjure morbid tales in the heaviest manner possible; albeit not always as consitently as I would like.

Flight's Fav's: "Birthing The Deformity," "Haunted Justice"
