The Pitch: The lean and mean third LP from Baltimore grind/thrash/death outfit Noisem via 20 Buck Spin. FFO: Repulsion, Nasum, Mammoth Grinder.

What I Like: What else really needs to be said other than Cease To Exist plays it fast and ugly. These breezy 22 minutes are powered almost exclusivey by disdainful attitude and pit stank. Crusty punk beats, blasts, and rumbling bass join with lightly blackened vocals in a manner that is impossible to ignore. You will be moving, you will be headbanging, and there is a good chance you won't leave without a few bruises no matter where you are. At times, the album reminds me of Tribulation's early work with the excellent album The Horror, before they slowed things down for more of a goth aesthetic. Again, fast and ugly. Those are the only two words that matter.

Critiques: The first half is a little better than the second, but it's still pretty damn good from start to finish.

The Verdict: Noisem is everything you could want in a simple, back-to-basics metal band. The album hits the listener over the head repeatedly and never asks for anything in return. It's violence for violence sake.
