The Pitch: Sharing members with Zilf, get your concentrated daily dose of hardcore from UK group Them Broads.  FFO: Every Time I Die, Great American Ghost, Trap Them

What I Like: When it comes to hardcore, less is generally more.  Them Broads seem to grasp this concept when it comes to their latest 3-song EP, Call of the Wild.  Across the board, the focus is right where it needs to be: charismatic vocals, catchy guitar hooks, and highly infectious drumming.  This is a band that can kick the piss out you in the pit, but also play with your expectations of the genre la The Chariot and Every Time I Die ("Digging Holes and Selling Souls").  This middle track proves that Them Broads are capable of bringing more than just primal fury while also perfectly setting up a seemless transition to the final climax.  Love those gang vocals on "Cold Cuts" as well.

Critiques: Some of the "singing" could use a little touching up, but not without loosing their raw edge.  I'd also like to see them take the clear influences at play and then run with them in new directions instead of just retreading familiar ideas.

The Verdict: Call of the Wild is a short-but-sick little EP that should have plenty of appeal for most hardcore fans in the audience.  It is available right now as a Name Your Price download and I also recommend checking out the rest of their catalogue.
