The Pitch: Italian death/grind band Hierophant step up the body count with their new album recorded by Taylor Young (Nails) with artwork from Paolo Girardi.
What I Like: This is how you harness brevity. Songs are only as long as they need to be, whether that translates to 1 minute or 11. Because the band seems to understand that less is more, each track hits like a semi truck directly to the cranium. Every second is milked for maximum growl intensity (think Left Behind), maximum blackened hooks, and maximum energy. And even on the lengthy closer, I so love how the tail end of the track just sounds like the closing riff is slowly decaying.
What I Don't Like: Nothing too impressive on the innovation side of things. This is me not caring.
The Verdict: Like The Lion's Daughter collided with Left Behind, Hierophant have harnessed some haunting and memorable melodies to further their message of destruction. This is a band that understands quality over quantity.
