The Pitch: Dark Trail Records presents the exciting new split between rising mathcore groups Arms and Seizures for 4 songs of delightful chaos. FFO: The Dillinger Escape Plan, God Mother, Converge

What I Like: Despite it's length, this release is an important one on so many levels. Here we have two amazing bands on the rise coming from an equally exciting new mathcore label still in it's infancy. Arms' material is high in demand considering their INCREDIBLE full length debut and worthy comparisons to The Dillinger Escape Plan, and I am pleased to say that Seizures go toe-to-toe with them in terms of quality. Furthermore, this doesn't feel like a Side A, Side B situation. All 4 of these tracks have an excellent flow that results in a highly cohesive listening experience.

Arms continue to do what they do best: tear it up with mind-boggling time-signatures and eardrum-assaulting guitar riffs. "Pentigroid Alcheum" is the more aggressive and straightforward track while "Junk Witch" presents a shizoid pairing of melodic chill with fierce technicality not unlike classic tracks like "Farewell Mona Lisa" and "Baby's First Coffin." This provides the perfect segway to Seizure's "Boreality," opening brooding and moody before erupting into an off-kilter, sandblasting bit of  riffage and noise. "The Yellow King" follows suit, combining rock, math, and a touch of post-metal into a melting pot of innovative and intriguing directions.

Critiques: I have pretty much zero complaints about this split. An extra song each to round out the length would have been nice, but this is the definition of quality over quantity.

The Verdict: Dark Trail Records continues to pump out the jams with Arms and Seizures. With the former delivering whirlwind musicianship and the latter sparking some innovation, there is no reason for you to sleep on this release. Right down to the fitting cover art, this is a package worth buying. Listen below, and don't forget to hit the bandcamp Follow button to keep up with new releases from DTR.
