The Pitch: Italian black metal band just formed this year puts out their first EP.

What I Like: I like the mixture of depressive post-black (like the first intro) with other riffs that are more reminiscent of Taake.  Even the occasional "Unghs!" sound a bit like Hoest.  I also really like the variation in the drumming.  They'll lull you into a certain blasting drone and then catch you off guard with a D-beat in a way that really gets you banging your head.  The vocals are strong, and I like the tasteful use of ambient on the closing track.

What I Don't Like: I think that "Bury Me" could work as a middle track to a longer album, but here it starts to feel like wasted space.  Then again, I know people that really dig these longer, moody tracks.

The Verdict: While it feels like a snapshot, Nemo Optavit Vivere is a very promising endeavor from a band in its first year of activity.  I look forward to hearing more.
