The Pitch: Another in-your-face fusion of beatdown metallic hardcore and death metal, this time in the form of Wolfpack and their new EP A.D. FFO: Great American Ghost, Wolf King, Code Orange

What I Like: One day I'll probably be worn out on death metal and hardcore fusions, but that day still seems a long way down the road. In addition to the larger scale releases from the bands above, we also have groups like Wolfpack killing it in the underground with uncompramising fury. While brief, this 5 song EP packs the power of 10,000 roided out, tough guy body builders. And in addition to the usual punishing metallic hardcore riffs and death growls, Wolfpack also throw in some Nu metal-y spoken word and groove, metalcore melodies, and even some off-kilter jazzy elements on the track "Lurk." And goddam is that bass tone filthy. Closing track "Prisonner" also ends up getting downright prophetic in its final moments.

Critiques: Just give me more, and keep experimenting. I appreciate that in addition to going hard, A.D. manages to also have a relatively distinct personality in this bloated genre.

The Verdict: A.D. is an utterly explosive experience clocking in at just over 15 minutes. While you're enjoying great new albums from the likes of Loathe and Code Orange, be sure that you don't end up sleeping on Wolfpack.
