STREAM: Australian Post-Metal from PROJECT:HEAVENSENT

Nov. 12, 2018

Project:Heavensent is a one man post-metal project based out of Melbourne. From the artist, "In my opinion, the best atmospheric post-metal is like the soundtrack to the end of the everything, yet inexplicably hopeful at the same time. Imagine you looked up and saw the moon careening down to wipe us all out in a planet-shattering impact, but, somehow, you also felt like that was for the best. Not a lot of bands get this right.  Mouth of the Architect for sure, obviously ISIS in their heyday, maybe Cult of Luna here and there (minus Julie Christmas), Oathbreaker when they've dabbled in this area, and of course, Neurosis could've retired on their mastery of this anytime.  But that's still a short list.

Look, sometimes I want to drive fast and blast balls-out rapid fire metal (like Night Demon) and scream along. Sometimes I want massive, cyclical grooves (like Domkraft) that swing and loop me into infinite layers of monolithic tone. And sometimes, and this is not a self-destructive impulse, I want to listen to a record that feels like, if it were the last apocalyptic thing I heard as the earth was falling into the sun, that wouldn't be such a bad thing. Project:Heavensent is a record like that.Dark, crushing, and apocalyptic, it's an ocean of hopelessness that somehow conjures hope."
