Mini-Review and Stream: Unhuman

Feb. 22, 2016

Another fan recommendation here, this time for Unhuman out of Montreal.  They were recommended to me mainly because I love Gigan.  If you are familiar with them, that should almost tell you enough.  But fo the less informed, the style of music on this 2013 self-titled album can be described as technical death metal force-fed LSD and fed through a wheat thresher.  Riffs are beyond schizophrenic with madly shifting time signatures and styles.  What is fairly typical tech death noodling one moment may turn into something a bit more avantgarde the next.

And the vocals...so wretched.  Brutal grunts, blackened growls, and some high pitched something-or-other that I can't even begin to describe.  It's like a dying goat gasping for air...I think.  I think Unhuman is really out to violate your eardrums and mind in addition to playing intensely mathematical (spelled it right this time) metal.  You can stream the madness below and pick it up for the fitting price of 6.66 CAD (around $5).
