For all of the groups that have been spawned from Meshuggah's sound, I have never come across such a carbon copy. Intensive Square on UK's Black Bow Records shares everything from the polyrhythmic guitar and drum combo to the punctuated vocals. But you know what? They do it so damn well I can overlook it. These 8 tracks are absolutely dripping with groove, and the less bassy production hearkens back to the early, pre-Nuclear Blast sound of Meshuggah's earlier albums. Furthermore, Anything That Moves takes the jazz connection to a whole new level by incorporating some wild, freeform sax solos into the mix. The end result is sometimes technical groove, sometimes mathcore, and sometimes a little avantgarde. So for all of its similiarities, I am still excited to see what Intensive Square do next.
