The Pitch: German melodic death and groove metal band Deserted Fear returns with a new record via Century Media.

What I Like: There are some decent riffs to be found when you can hear them (see below).  The vocals are strong, and the sound is definitely heavy.  The drums in particular have a really nice kick.

What I Don't Like: I'm no audophile, but I know a poorly mixed guitar when I hear one.  Many of the leads have been washed out, which is unfortunate because when I really strain my ears or wear headphones I catch some interesting bits.  The crunchy rhythm palm muting is far too dominant.

The Verdict: Dead Shores Rising will cerrtainly make you bang your head, but due to some poor choices on the production end many of the best hooks are buried.  I'd be interested to hear the songs live, and maybe in a remaster.
