The Pitch: "Kenaima is a band of uncompromising intensity. Bringing Hardcore sensibilities to Technical Metal, they remain true to the cause of Progressive music. Wrapped with a bow of snark and delivered unapologetically, they aim to leave a lasting impression on audiences far and wide."

What I Like: Kenaima has that rusty machinery kind of sound. The guitars are like metal surfaces scraping against each other, in desperate need of lubrication. It's mathcore in the vein of Calculating Infinity-era The Dillinger Escape Plan. From the production quality to the purposefully unpolished performances, everything about Haste just feels raw. This is especially true of the vocals, which are intensely aggressive. They share a similar deep, gargly, throaty tone that I associate with The Apex and perhaps Left Behind as well.

Critiques: There's lots of potential here, but aside from the excellent "Lifetime Original Movie," these other tracks are just "good." They have above average musicianship, but I'd like to see a little more attention to memorable songwriting to match the performances.

The Verdict: Haste is a solid mathcore album from a band made up of impressive musicians. While it could be more memorable, there is more than enough on this EP to please those looking for something violent and technical.
