The Pitch: "Self-defined as a brutal orchestra, Vampillia is a 10-piece group from Osaka, Japan constantly pushing and blurring the boundaries of sonic extremity with their beautiful yet twisted and dark blend of metal, noise, post-rock, ambient, shoegaze, classical, progressive, folk and industrial." FFO: Horse The Band, The Armed, The Hirsch Effekt

What I Like: When it comes to experimental metal, you really can't go wrong with Japan. This country has been a breeding ground for all sorts of innovative, forward-thinking music, and Vampillia continues the trend with the short-but-sweet Happiness Brought By Endless Sorrow. It's not just the sheer amount of disparate elements on display: it's how they come together. Hardcore screams, brutal snarls, electronics, pounding drums, piano, strings, synths, and raging guitars all flow effortlessly together in a genre-bending excursion that seems to pack an hours worth of instrumentation into less time than it took to write this.

Critiques: Not a damn thing. Just send more.

The Verdict: Vampillia more than earned special recognition with this EP, and you best spread the word. Once again, all of the best artists get the least attention. Such is art.
