Beneath the Storm is a one-man project from Slovenia. The latest album, Devil's Village is a dark work of atmospheric death doom. This is a concept album based on the movie “City of the Dead”. Fittingly, there is a cinematic quality throughout the duration, with sound clips from the film regarding witches and other suck spookiness.

I have to say, despite the macabre, there are some pretty groovy pagan rituals happening. I picture Charles Manson in the mix with some naked, misguided hippies. There's definitely a morbid sexuality oozing from the sludgy guitar tone. Bass guitar, distorted growls, and fire under a full moon. That's Beneath the Storm.

Every now and then there is a break from the slogging pace with a stonerific hook. "At the Hour of Thirteen" has one such riff straight out of Queens Of The Stone Age. "Starting the Ritual," on the other hand, juxtaposes the pleading screams of an unseen sacrifice with an absolutely infectious groove. Finally, th mostly instrumental "Moonlight Through the Trees" is a fitting conclusion to this grim little story.

If you like yourself some doom, sludge, and horror movies; look no further. 5 Euro on Bandcamp.
