The Pitch: UK blackened death faction Vacivus return with a new EP on limited vinyl through Goatprayer Records.  FFO Malthusian, Portal

What I Like: This EP is a solid leap forward from the previous one on a number of levels, but is no less ugly (in a good way).  Listen to those drums.  That bass kick is so merciless that these guys must go through a lot of heads.  The blackened, Portal-esque guitar lines build plenty of ominous atmosphere, but it is the finishing touches of the cymbal patterns and tom fills that really make the entire experience pop.  The vocals are as harrowing as ever in their reverb-ridden deep grunts and disarming eruptions of blackened shrieks.

What I Don't Like: They still haven't quite stepped out from under the shadow of their more established brethren in the style, but their skills have increased enough where this seems to be the next logical step for the band.

The Verdict: Devious and malevolent release from a band on the rise.  If these two tracks aren't enough for you, the band has recently signed with Profound Lore with promises of a debut LP later this year.  Buy digital right now or pre-order the limited vinyl due 3/31.
