Comaniac is a thrash metal 4-piece from Switzerland. Formed in 2012, Return to the Wasteland marks their debut full length album. VladPromotion has an excellent roster of thrash metal groups, but this was in the top 2 for me.

the vocals are half Dave Mustaine and half Paul Baloff. It's an unbridled, rebellious screech that straddles the extreme. This delivery is well met with plenty of sing-along lyrics. Follow the bouncing (bloody) ball. But people coming for their daily dose of thrash rarely come to talk about the frontman. It's all about the guitar. Lucky for you, there are s really killer guitar harmonies, like later on the "1, 2, Rage." Really, the riffs are just great in general. Fast, hard, varied.

The result is a sound that is straight out of the 80's and early 90's. It can also be pretty berating (in a good way) between the shrill vocals and choice of gain. Comaniac also have just a touch of a proggy side that starts to show up around the 3 min mark of "Secret Seed" but takes on a larger role by "Cut Throat." This is less a foundational element than just another tool to further their sound and create a unique combination of guitar approaches. The end result is not unlike that of Megadeth circa Rust in Peace.

And so, to be brief, Comaniac plays thrash, and they do it well. If you're looking for another band to carry the torch of the older days, this is for you. You can stream it below and pick up digital for about $7. Have fun in the wasteland.
