The Pitch: Finnish deathcore that will compel you to eat yet more bricks.  FFO Whitechapel, Carnifex, and They Art Is Murder

What I Like: This ain't the most imaginative music out there, but it's one of the more successful attempts I've heard at boiling the genre back down to its most basic components.  The minimalistic approach is met well with clean production that isn't quite sterile and sports just enough reverb to create some 3rd dimension.  I also really like the creepy Korn-like guitar leads on tracks like "Pitch Black" and "Delusions" that counterbalance the downtuned start-stop grooves.  The vocals, though purposefully primitive, are quite powerful and deliver an admirable range.  The brutal lows are...well, brutal; but there is also some impressive blackened wretching and everything in between.

What I Don't Like:  Pretty typical stuff, but done well.  I think the band accomplished what they set out to do, so it's hard to criticize them for that.

The Verdict: The Cadillac of bricks.  Goes down smooth.

Flight's Fav's: Pitch Black, Delusions, FFTM
