The Pitch: Meet Ars Magna Umbrae, a Polish one-man black metal project and "a manifestation of the darkest psyche." FFO Deathspell Omega lite, Outre
What I Like: Great sound to this album. The darkness is palpable and comes through in a number of ways. There are more overtly fierce compositions like the title track; ones that sound like a cloud of bats swarming an unsuspective mountain village. Others are a little more brooding and ominous, utilizing very effective little guitar hooks (love the one on "Against The Light")and haunting clean singing and ululations of Hekte Zaren. Through Lunar Gateways is a tight and brisk little release at just 23 minutes that provides one room to appreciate its finer points.
What I Don't Like: There's certainly some room for improving the songwriting flow and emphasizing a few more high points.
The Verdict: A brief, but ultimately rewarding black metal release from an underdog worthy of your attention. Stream the album below and start spreading the word.
