When I receive email requests, a little enthusiasm never hurts.:

There's a band from Philadelphia called Chronostasis that's beginning to take the state of PA, and the Internet by storm. These guys are instantly crawling at the feet of tech bands such as Blotted Science, Between the Buried and Me, and Behold the Arctopus. It's a 6 song album full of horror sounds straight from Nightmare on Elm Street, odd time that happens nearly at every measure, and virtuosic soloing from every member all the way to the bassist. -Jay

Somebody must have minored in marketing. But all joking aside, I can't knock a band that can back up the boasts. Truly, this is a group of people that have honed their abilities.

First and foremost, Jay hit the nail on the head with the comparisons to BTBAM and Behold the Arctopus. The former was the very first thing that came to mind while listening to "Nefelibata," the first proper track to the album. It has that perfect quirky-to-heavy ratio. Chronostasis is some most excellent progressive noodling of guitar and clanky bass. The classical and jazz influences are apparent in both arrangements and time signatures. Alternating highs and lows are like an escalating argument between Charlie Brown's parents.

Overall, Cosmagida is an entertaining offering that is very technically sound and full of changes in pace and aesthetic. I may be completely off base here, but listening to this album often felt like a showcase of playing styles referencing different regions. Various riffs just vibe with everything from the Middle East to the Southern States. In any case, tracks like "Frame Rate" will keep things rocking. Stream it on bandcamp and buy it for $5 today.
