The Pitch: Vancouver's unhinged technical blackened death metal quartet Mitochondrion release Antinumerology on CD via Krucyator Productions.  FFO: Auroch, Sepetus, Dendritic Arbor

What I Like: Side note here; I just respect the hell out of Loic and what he is doing with Krucyator.  He has an ear for dark, excellent music (and a talent for creating it) and you should take the man's seal of approval seriously.  Much the same for Mitochondrion.  I have covered them and their related projecty, Auroch, in the past and they are another band that creates my favorite kind of metal music these days.  It's a grindy, noisy, technical hodgepodge of black and death metal seemingly inspired by groups like Deathspell Omega and Imperial Triumphant among others.  While this EP is only 3 songs clocking in around 13 minutes, the band packs every second with a rewarding experience.  Whether via the shifting pace of "Insummation" or the unstoppable force that is "137 (Mors Formulae)," expect to have your senses violated.

Critiques: I'm generally fine with short EP's, but this one does leave me feeling like it needs at least one more track.  I also feel like the title track is a little weak in comparison to the other two.

The Verdict: A solid, albeit short, EP from a talented band now presented in physical glory by a label on the rise.  Support both Mitochondrion and Krucyator by following the stream link below.
